Our Military Kids Grant Program

5 Feb

Active duty military children have wonderful programs and various forms of support to use during a deployment. Children of deployed National Guard and Reserve parents often have few programs available because most families do not live on or near a military base. I was delighted to read an article about a grant program called “Our Military Kids” that funds sports, fine arts, and extracurricular programs for children of National Guard and Reserve parents who are deployed.

This wonderful program is open to children ages 7 to 12 who have a deployed parent. The grants go up to $500, and each child in the household can apply for a grant during a deployment. The grant even covers the cost of equipment.

Applications are available through Our Military Kids website, ourmilitarykids.org. A copy of the parent’s deployment orders and a copy of the child’s military dependent ID or birth certificate must be provided. Additionally, the program requires documentation for the cost of the activity.

I love their motto:

“From A to Z, acting to zoo camp, we fund activities that keep children strong and honor their family’s service.”
